More Conundrum
18 September 2011
Charlie has something of a photographic memory, selectively. Certain things -- a red spot of paint, a red box of brownies -- are fixed in his mind and must be seen.
Large goldish-tan sedans driven by neighbors of a certain age like the one he head-banged on as ESY was ending are now on that list.
As Jim told me, on a sunny Sunday after doing 15 miles on the Jersey horse country trail, Charlie stopped short while biking down a street they've biked on numerous times, walked methodically but with a troubled look on his face towards the car, was stopped by Jim. Whereupon, as happens when Charlie is locked in obsessive-compulsive thinking and then finds the obsession thwarted, behavior storm. I was at the grocery store when it happened and Charlie was calm, and police were present (a neighbor had called them) by the time I drove up.
Jim urged Charlie to get back on his bike and they finished their ride and I think this helped Charlie not have too much lag yesterday evening.
It was more to try to understand, prepare for, help Charlie through -- more autismland conundrum.
